If you cannot close an open trading position, the most common causes are using an Investor Password, attempting to manage a PAMM Investor Account, a disconnected trading platform, market closures, or restrictions affecting the selected instrument.
Common Reasons and How to Fix Them
You Are Using an Investor Password
An Investor Password provides view-only access. It allows you to view account activity and market prices but does not allow you to open, modify, or close trades.
What to do:
- Log out of MT4 or MT5.
- Log back in using your trading account password (Master Password).
- Check whether you can close the position.
You Are Using a PAMM Investor Account
PAMM Investor Accounts are not tradable and cannot be used to place, modify, or close trading positions directly.
If you are using a PAMM Investor Account and need assistance with your investment or account, contact Customer Support for guidance on the applicable process.
The Market Is Closed or the Instrument Is Temporarily Unavailable
A position may not be closable while the relevant instrument is outside its trading hours or affected by scheduled maintenance or other trading restrictions.
Market availability may be affected by weekends, public holidays, instrument-specific schedules, or temporary restrictions.
What to do:
- Check the instrument's trading hours in the platform or product specifications.
- Review the Moneta Markets Notifications page for relevant announcements.
- If the market is open but you still cannot close the position, continue with the checks below.
Your Platform Is Disconnected from the Trading Server
An unstable internet connection or loss of connection to the trading server may prevent a close order from being submitted or executed.
What to do on MT4 or MT5:
- Check your internet connection.
- Check the connection indicator in the bottom-right corner of the platform.
- If the platform shows No Connection, verify your login details and trading server, then log in again.
- If the issue persists, close and reopen the platform and check the connection again.
The Instrument or Trading Account Has Restrictions
Some instruments may only be available on specific account types or platforms. Trading restrictions may also affect whether an order can be placed for a particular instrument.
What to do:
- Confirm that the instrument is supported by your account and platform.
- Check whether any relevant trading restrictions or official announcements apply.
-
If you can view the position but cannot close it, contact Customer Support promptly for assistance.
